On July 10, Udupi District Commissioner Swaroopa T.K. stated that appropriate action will be taken against non-responsive Booth Level Officers (BLOs) who fail to distribute and collect enumeration forms. Despite receiving training on multiple occasions, some BLOs have not responded, prompting the district administration to take action. The DC was speaking at a monthly interaction program organized by the Udupi District Journalists Association at the Udupi Press Club.
The program was attended by various officials, including the president of the association, Subrahmanya G. Kuri, secretary Nazir Polya, and others. The DC also released the June issue of the association’s magazine, Sanmathi. The DC warned that BLOs who fail to perform their duties will face action, and those who have not responded despite repeated instructions will be issued notices.
The draft voter list will be published on August 5, and the final list will be published on August 7. The DC also clarified that the Aadhaar card is not a proof of residence and will not be accepted as a document for voter registration. Only new voters who have turned 18 will be added to the voter list, and those above 18 who are not already on the list will have to wait until January to register.
Officials have been appointed at the taluk level to assist with the voter registration process, and self-help groups have been appointed at the booth level to assist voters. The DC also stated that the enumeration form can be filled in either English or Kannada, and that the original form is in English, so filling it in English will not cause any issues.
The DC also warned that builders who do not allow BLOs to distribute forms to all flats in a residential complex will face action. A meeting has been held with builders’ associations to ensure that BLOs are allowed to distribute forms to all residents.
