On Sunday, State Health and Family Welfare Minister U.T. Khader acknowledged the invaluable contribution of doctors in creating a healthy society at the second annual Doctors’ Day celebration in Udupi. The event, organized by the Health Commission of the Udupi Diocese, took place at the Ave Maria Auditorium of Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Minister Khader emphasized that doctors prioritize the health of society over their personal lives, providing selfless service and saving numerous lives. He added that every doctor has the potential to bring about revolutionary changes and should provide service without compromising patient dignity. The minister urged the medical community to raise awareness about good dietary practices to build a healthy society.

Dr. H.S. Ballal, Pro-Chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education, was the chief guest and inaugurated the program. He stated that efforts should be made to bring the backward and poor into the mainstream through educational and health services. Dr. Ballal mentioned that MAHE has been working in this direction for many years, providing services at subsidized rates through health cards. Most Rev. Dr. Leslie Clifford D’Souza, Bishop of the Diocese, presided over the program and expressed gratitude for the services provided by doctors in the diocese.

A new dental treatment unit and a diabetes screening unit were inaugurated at Goretti Hospital, Santhekatte, during the program. ECG machines were handed over to two health institutions. The Manipal Arogya Suraksha Card registration campaign for 2027 was also launched by Dr. H.S. Ballal. The event was attended by various dignitaries, including retired Bishop of the Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, and Chancellor Rev. Stephen D’Souza.
