On his 54th birthday, former India captain Sourav Ganguly was named the latest inductee into the ICC Hall of Fame, prompting congratulations from batting great Sachin Tendulkar. In a heartfelt message on X, Tendulkar expressed his happiness at seeing his long-time teammate join the prestigious list. Ganguly, who is currently serving as the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal, will become the 12th Indian overall and the 10th Indian men’s cricketer to receive one of cricket’s highest honours.
Ganguly responded to Tendulkar’s message, thanking the cricket icon and stating that being inducted alongside him was the greatest satisfaction of his cricketing career. With a stellar career spanning 311 ODIs and 113 Test matches, Ganguly scored 11,363 runs in ODIs, including 22 centuries, and 7,212 runs in Test cricket. As captain, he led India to several notable victories, including the 2002 NatWest Trophy and a historic Test series win in Pakistan in 2004.
The International Cricket Council is expected to formally announce the latest Hall of Fame inductees on July 11 at the conclusion of its annual conference in Edinburgh. Previous Indian inductees include Bishan Singh Bedi, Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, and MS Dhoni. Ganguly’s induction is a testament to his significant contributions to Indian cricket, both as a player and as an administrator.
