Vivek Alva, Managing Trustee of Alva's Education Foundation, will address the third International Conference on Environmental and Nature Management through Regional Cooperation of BRICS Nations from September 15 to 17 in Petrozavodsk, Republic of Karelia, Russia. His session, titled “Conservation of Western Ghats: From Awareness to Community Action,” will highlight the role of local communities and youth in safeguarding the ecosystem.
During the special session, Alva will showcase a series of conservation projects carried out by Alva's Education Foundation across the Western Ghats. He plans to stress that lasting protection must move beyond awareness campaigns to become community‑driven initiatives that empower residents to manage their natural surroundings.
The conference, organized by the Karelian Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences together with the Russian BRICS Research National Committee, will host researchers discussing climate change, biodiversity, sustainable resource use and regional cooperation. Dr. Vinay Shivamurthy, Associate Professor in the Civil Engineering Department of Alva's Institute of Engineering and Technology and Head of Alva's Research Centre, will deliver a keynote on “Conservation of River Ecosystems through Environmental Flow Assessment in Aquatic Ecosystems of the Central Western Ghats.”
Representatives from Karnataka such as Dr. T.V. Ramachandra (Indian Institute of Science), Dr. Shwetha Rangaswamy Hassan (National Institute of Technology, Surathkal), Dr. Nagaraj S. Patil (Visvesvaraya Technological University), Dr. Bharath Setturu (Chanakya University), Dr. Venkataramana Hegde (VDIT, Haliyal) and Dr. Anand Deshpande (Angadi Institute of Technology and Management, Belagavi) will also participate, making the event a vital platform for sharing regional conservation experiences and strengthening collaborative strategies for sustainable natural‑resource management.
