New Delhi, 13 September 2026 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi told the gathering of BRICS leaders that rising geopolitical friction is hurting ordinary people worldwide and that the bloc must act together to foster inclusive growth, especially for nations of the Global South.
Speaking before heads of state including Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Modi warned that the weaponisation of technology and critical minerals could stall shared prosperity. He highlighted that under India's presidency the summit has focused on four pillars – resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability – turning a common vision into a win‑win outcome.
The prime minister stressed that pandemics, climate disasters and supply‑chain shocks show no crisis stays confined to a single region. To bolster resilience, BRICS members have agreed on an Integrated Early Warning System for infectious diseases and have drafted guidelines for a data‑integration mechanism. A logistics supply‑chain cooperation framework is set to make trade routes more reliable, while a BRICS incubator network will link startups and innovation hubs across the five continents.
Modi concluded that the confidence of the Global South in BRICS is rising, and that coordinated action on technology misuse, mineral security and sustainable development will keep the partnership relevant in an increasingly interconnected world.
