As of July 1, 2026, the Ministry of External Affairs has implemented a revised fee structure for passport-related services, making it more expensive for individuals to obtain or renew their passports in India and at Indian missions and consulates abroad. New Delhi is the hub of these changes, which affect various passport-linked services, including fresh applications, renewals, and replacement of lost or damaged passports. For adults, the fee for a standard application for a fresh 36-page passport or renewal has increased from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,500, while a 60-page passport now costs Rs 3,500, up from Rs 2,000. The Tatkaal scheme also sees a hike, with a 36-page adult passport now costing Rs 5,000, up from Rs 3,500, and a 60-page passport costing Rs 6,000, up from Rs 4,000. Applicants seeking replacement passports due to loss or damage will pay higher charges, with a 36-page passport costing Rs 5,000, up from Rs 3,000, and a 60-page passport costing Rs 6,000, up from Rs 3,500. Children below 18 years will also face increased fees, with a 36-page fresh or reissue passport costing Rs 1,750, up from Rs 1,000, and a 36-page fresh or reissue passport in the Tatkaal category costing Rs 4,250, up from Rs 3,000. Miscellaneous passport services, including police clearance certification, will cost Rs 750, up from Rs 500. Indian citizens applying for passport services outside India will follow a separate fee structure, with a fresh 36-page passport application costing $125 and a Tatkaal application costing $250. A 10 per cent discount on fresh passport applications will continue for children below eight years and senior citizens above 60 years.
