The Konkani community residing in Salmiya, Kuwait, at the St Therese of Child Jesus Parish, joyfully observed the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, widely known as Monti Fest, with profound devotion on September 4. This significant annual celebration brought together over a thousand faithful from the coastal Karnataka diaspora.
The festivities commenced at 3:45 p.m. in the parish courtyard, where a distinguished group of clergy blessed the Novem (new corn) and dates. Participating in this sacred ritual were Rev. Fr. Manoj Victor D'Souza, Rev. Fr. Darel Fernandes, Rev. Fr. Avil Rosario, Rev. Fr. Joe Fernandes, and Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Savio D'Souza. Following the blessing, children and adults alike reverently offered flowers to Mamma Mary, a cherished tradition, before a solemn procession led attendees into the church for the festive Eucharistic celebration.
During the Holy Mass, visiting priest Rev. Fr. Manoj D'Souza delivered a poignant homily. He eloquently spoke about the virtues of Mother Mary and underscored her indispensable role in family life. The Konkani Choir, under the skilled direction of Kiran Gonsalves, enhanced the spiritual atmosphere with their melodious hymns dedicated to Mother Mary. Post-Eucharist, the faithful received new corn (Kanshi) specifically brought from Mangalore, along with dates and Vorn, upholding a treasured Konkani tradition integral to Monti Fest.
Spiritual preparation for the feast included a Monti Fest Triduum, held on August 14, 21, and 28. These preparatory services were led by Rev. Fr. Darel Fernandes and Rev. Fr. Avil Rosario. Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Savio D'Souza and Community Representative Rajesh Aranha extended their heartfelt gratitude to all volunteers and supporters whose efforts ensured a spiritually enriching and memorable occasion. The celebration served as a powerful testament to faith, family bonds, and devotion to Mother Mary among the Salmiya Konkani community.
