Mangaluru's CCB police have dismantled a significant drug trafficking operation, apprehending two individuals in Bagalkote and seizing 5.196 kilograms of MDMA valued at Rs 5.20 crore. The arrests, announced on Thursday by Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy, targeted a network poised to distribute the synthetic drug across Bengaluru, Mangaluru, and neighboring Kerala.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohammed Alfaz (28) from Indabettu, Belthangady taluk, and Mohammed Mustafa (28) from Halepete Laila Vivekananda Nagar, Ujire. Both are originally from Belthangady.
This operation forms part of the ongoing efforts by Mangaluru police to combat drug peddling in the region. The bust occurred approximately 15 days after the arrest of a drug peddler named Annappaswamy, from whom 15 grams of MDMA were confiscated. The recent arrests were a direct result of an investigation into the network supplying Annappaswamy.
Acting on intelligence, CCB officers raided the Royal Inn Lodge located on the national highway in Hungund, Bagalkote district. There, they intercepted Alfaz and Mustafa as they transported the MDMA, reportedly purchased from Delhi and en route to Bengaluru. Along with the substantial quantity of MDMA, authorities also seized bags and mobile phones from the accused.
Police records indicate that Mohammed Alfaz has previous cases registered against him concerning MDMA sales: one at Konaje Police Station in 2024 and another at Urwa Police Station in 2026. Commissioner Reddy confirmed that several individuals are involved in this extensive drug trafficking case and assured that the investigation will continue to uncover further links.
Dakshina Kannada District Superintendent of Police Dr. Arun Kumar, and Deputy Commissioners of Police Ravishankar and Mithun, were present during the press conference.
