On Monday, former minister and patron of the Kundapura Kannada study chair, K. Jayaprakash Hegde, inaugurated the cultural and art competition, 'Valbell', organized for students from the Kundapura Kannada-speaking region, at the Vidyaranya School premises in Udupi. Hegde emphasized that Kundapura Kannada is not just a spoken medium, but a reflection of our culture, life, and heritage.

Hegde stressed the importance of using Kundapura Kannada at home, in addition to learning English and pure Kannada, to keep the language alive. He also highlighted the need to introduce children to the richness of village life and the importance of preserving old memories.

Renowned actress and Kannada activist, Ashwini Gouda, also spoke at the event, emphasizing the importance of carrying one's mother tongue, culture, and heritage in one's heart, regardless of where life takes them. She praised the unique style, hospitality, and environment of Kundapura Kannada.

The event was attended by several prominent personalities, including Dr. Ramesh Shetty, President of the Sujnan Education Trust, and Bharat Shetty, the trust's treasurer. The event also saw the felicitation of Ashwini Gouda, retired Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University, Raju Mogaveera, and Prof. Nagappagowda A.R., coordinator of the Kundapura Kannada study chair.

The Sujnan Education Trust has taken the initiative to promote Kundapura Kannada, and the event was organized without any government funding. The trust has also announced its intention to provide financial and practical support to researchers and students interested in pursuing a Ph.D. in Kundapura Kannada.
