On Tuesday, Karnataka will host a high-level consultation workshop at Hampi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to identify and finalise the first set of tourist destinations to be developed to global standards. Tourism Minister K.J. George announced the workshop on Monday, stating that it marks a significant milestone in Karnataka’s efforts to build a world-class tourism ecosystem. The state government aims to transform Karnataka into a globally competitive tourism hub through this initiative. The workshop, scheduled for July 7, will bring together government officials, industry leaders, investors, and tourism experts to formulate a clear roadmap for developing globally competitive tourist destinations. Chaired by Minister George, the workshop will be attended by Union Joint Secretary, Tourism, Suvashish Das, state Tourism Secretary Trilok Chandra, and other key stakeholders. Discussions will focus on infrastructure development, visitor experience, and sustainable tourism models, among other aspects. Experts will present recommendations and share global best practices to help formulate a long-term strategy for tourism development. The government expects to finalise the first set of priority destinations based on the workshop’s recommendations, which will be equipped with world-class infrastructure and sustainable tourism practices.
