On Tuesday, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar initiated Karnataka’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls at his residence in Sadashivanagar, Bengaluru, by filling out his own Enumeration Form. He emphasized the importance of voter registration in accessing government benefits and urged all eligible voters to complete the exercise. The Chief Minister was joined by Bengaluru South Deputy Commissioner Yashwanth Gurukar, whose jurisdiction includes the Chief Minister’s native village of Doddalahalli in Kanakapura. CM Shivakumar received the Enumeration Form from election officials and submitted the completed form, marking the commencement of the statewide month-long house-to-house verification exercise. He admitted that the form required detailed information, making it slightly difficult to fill, but stressed that the process was crucial for ensuring every eligible citizen remained on the electoral roll. The Chief Minister appealed to voters to actively participate in the exercise, stating that preserving one’s voting right was essential for accessing government benefits in the future. He also explained that voters could update their mobile numbers while submitting the Enumeration Form, enabling them to receive One-Time Passwords (OTPs) for future digital services related to electoral rolls. The SIR campaign aims to ensure that welfare schemes and benefits reach only genuine residents of Karnataka, with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and Booth Level Agents (BLAs) assisting voters during the exercise. Voters have until July 29 to return the completed forms to the BLOs or BLAs.
