On Tuesday, Booker Prize winner Banu Mushtaq initiated the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Hassan district from her residence, accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner and other district officials. As she launched the exercise, Mushtaq expressed that her initial apprehensions about the SIR process were alleviated, describing it as straightforward and simple. The renowned Kannada author had been concerned after hearing criticism from political leaders and activists, but her experience proved otherwise. To complete the Enumeration Form, Mushtaq was required to submit only two documents: her Aadhaar card and old Voter Identity Card. The procedure was smooth, with one copy of the completed form remaining with the district administration and another with the applicant. Mushtaq urged the district administration to ensure that every citizen receives proper guidance during the exercise, requesting the Deputy Commissioner to create greater public awareness about the enumeration process. She appealed to the authorities to instruct officials to assist all citizens with courtesy and patience. The SIR exercise, launched across Karnataka, involves over 59,000 Booth Level Officers conducting a month-long door-to-door verification to maintain accurate and up-to-date electoral rolls. Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar also launched the SIR exercise by filling out his own Enumeration Form, emphasizing the importance of voter registration for accessing government benefits.
