On June 7, Udupi district reported a substantial decrease in traffic rule violations, thanks to the installation of Autonomous vehicle registration number recognition (ANPR) cameras in six locations across the district. The cameras, which automatically recognize vehicle registration numbers and record details of vehicle owners and traffic violations, were installed in May and became operational on the 21st. Locations such as Padubidri-Uchchila, Kapu-Dandatirtha, Kota-Thekkatte, Gangolli-Trasi, Byndur-Kergal, and Karkala-Dupadakattes now have these cameras, which have led to a 40 to 70 percent reduction in major traffic rule violations.
