On a mission to resolve the arecanut transport crisis, a delegation of Karnataka MPs and arecanut cooperators, led by Shivamogga MP B.Y. Raghavendra, met with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Pralhad Joshi in New Delhi. The meeting took place today, with the delegation seeking assistance for arecanut growers and their families affected by the blockage of state nut transport in Maharashtra. Raghavendra, at the helm of the delegation, requested that the Maharashtra government allow smooth passage for arecanut transport vehicles from Karnataka that possess proper documents. The delegation comprised representatives from prominent South Indian arecanut cooperative institutions, including CAMPCO, MAMCO, and the Karnataka State Arecanut Marketing Cooperative Societies Federation. They urged the Chief Minister to intervene, citing the severe difficulties faced by arecanut growers across Karnataka due to the prolonged detention of legitimate arecanut consignments in Maharashtra. The delegation demanded the swift release of held-up arecanut consignments and the implementation of a streamlined transport procedure to safeguard the livelihoods of millions of arecanut growers. With the arecanut growing regions of Karnataka being extensively affected, the delegation sought the Chief Minister’s aid to protect the interests of the state’s distressed arecanut growers and their families.
