President Droupadi Murmu landed in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat on Monday, September 21, ahead of the 72nd National Film Awards ceremony scheduled for Tuesday, September 22.
She was welcomed by Governor Acharya Devvrat and a delegation that included Protocol Minister Praful Pansheriya, Bharuch MP Mansukh Vasava, Nandod MLA Darshna Deshmukh, Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited MD Mukesh Puri, District Collector Ganga Singh, Superintendent of Police Vishakha Dabral and other senior officials.
The President will preside over the awards event, presenting trophies to filmmakers, actors, technicians and writers for their contributions to Indian cinema in 2024.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has moved the ceremony out of Delhi, choosing Ekta Nagar as the venue for this edition and signalling a plan to rotate future ceremonies among different states and cities.
Winners for the 2024 edition were announced on July 18. The feature film Article 370 received the Best Feature Film honour, while Yami Gautam earned Best Actress for her role in the same film. Mammootty and Kartik Aaryan split the Best Actor award for Bramayugam and Chandu Champion respectively. Veteran actor Anant Nag will be conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for a career spanning more than five decades.
