From July 8 to July 10, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will host Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Melbourne for the Australia-India Annual Leaders’ Summit. Prime Minister Albanese expressed his enthusiasm for the visit, stating he is honoured to welcome his friend Prime Minister Modi to Australia. The Australian Prime Minister’s Office issued a statement highlighting the significance of the visit, which aims to further strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries and deepen cooperation across key sectors. As the world’s fourth-largest and one of the fastest-growing economies, India is a vital economic partner for Australia, with strong economic and cultural connections. The bilateral relationship has continued to expand, delivering benefits to both nations in areas such as trade, defence, security, and technology. The two prime ministers last met in November 2025 on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg. Prime Minister Albanese looks forward to strengthening the deep partnership between Australia and India, which fosters peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific. Following the Australia visit, Prime Minister Modi will travel to New Zealand for a State Visit from July 10 to July 11, marking the first State Visit by an Indian Prime Minister to New Zealand in nearly four decades.
