On July 1, 2026, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) implemented a revised fee structure for passport-related services in India and at Indian missions and consulates abroad. As a result, obtaining a passport has become more expensive for citizens. For adults, the charges for a standard application for a fresh 36-page passport or renewal have increased from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,500, while a 60-page passport now costs Rs 3,500, up from Rs 2,000. The Tatkaal scheme fees have also been raised, with a 36-page adult passport now costing Rs 5,000, up from Rs 3,500, and a 60-page passport costing Rs 6,000, up from Rs 4,000. Replacement passports due to loss or damage will also incur higher charges, with a 36-page passport costing Rs 5,000, up from Rs 3,000, and a 60-page passport costing Rs 6,000, up from Rs 3,500. Children below 18 years will also face increased fees, with a 36-page fresh or reissue passport costing Rs 1,750, up from Rs 1,000, and a 36-page Tatkaal passport costing Rs 4,250, up from Rs 3,000. Miscellaneous passport services, including police clearance certification (PCC), will now cost Rs 750, up from Rs 500. Indian citizens applying for passport services abroad will follow a separate fee structure, with a fresh 36-page passport application costing $125, and a Tatkaal application costing $250. A 10 per cent discount will continue for children below eight years and senior citizens above 60 years for fresh passport applications.
