On a mission to revolutionize India’s space infrastructure, Hyderabad-based startup TakeMe2Space has joined forces with Bengaluru-based QOSMIC to develop the country’s first Optical Inter-Satellite Link (OISL) network. This groundbreaking partnership aims to enable near-real-time satellite data transmission, bypassing the need for ground stations. Currently, Indian Earth observation satellites capture crucial data, such as flood or crop-stress signals, but the information can take several minutes to hours to reach the relevant authorities. The new OISL network will utilize high-speed laser links to route data between satellites, providing a sovereign and uninterrupted data pipeline for the Indian government, enterprises, and commercial operators.

The partnership between TakeMe2Space and QOSMIC is set to lay the foundation for a space-based data relay network that does not rely on foreign infrastructure. This development is crucial amidst the current global geopolitical landscape. According to Ronak Kumar Samantray, Founder and CEO of TakeMe2Space, optical inter-satellite communications are a vital component for the future of orbital infrastructure. The joint program will commence with system design and development, followed by space qualification and on-orbit validation, with the first optical communications terminal scheduled for launch in the second quarter of 2027.

The OISL technology will be integrated into TakeMe2Space’s MOI constellation, transforming individual satellites into an interconnected orbital network. This will enable data generated anywhere in the constellation to be dynamically routed and transmitted down to the nearest available RF gateway or QOSMIC’s optical ground infrastructure. The data will then be processed on-orbit into actionable insights before reaching Earth, facilitating near-real-time delivery. This capability will be particularly significant in areas where minutes count, such as precision agriculture, disaster response, environmental monitoring, and national security.
