On June 15, T.M. Shahid, KPCC General Secretary and Chairman of the Karnataka State Minimum Wage Advisory Board, called for immediate relief for the families of the deceased in the Naguri tragedy. The tragedy occurred when a retaining wall collapsed in Naguri due to heavy monsoon rains, claiming the lives of three people, including two children from a migrant worker family from Bihar. The incident happened near Mariyal House, Garodi, Naguri, in the early morning. Shahid expressed deep condolences and concern over the tragedy, stating that the loss of lives is an irreparable loss. He urged the government and district administration to declare maximum emergency relief for the affected family without delay.
Shahid emphasized the need for precautionary measures in light of the intensifying rains in the coastal region. He reminded that the protection of the public and workers is everyone’s responsibility. The City Corporation and the Labor Department must conduct a joint survey to ensure the safety of the working class living in dangerous areas, such as retaining walls, houses on hill slopes, and temporary sheds, and relocate them to safer places urgently. Shahid prayed for eternal peace for the souls of the deceased and demanded that the government take immediate action to support the affected family.
