On Tuesday, at the Zilla Panchayat’s Netravati hall in Mangalore, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Narvade Vinayak Karbari expressed his disappointment with certain banks in Dakshina Kannada district. These banks have been slow to dispose of applications for government schemes and have shown little interest in lending to the non-primary sector. Karbari reviewed the progress of each bank in the district and warned that while many banks, particularly private ones, have collected deposits in rural areas, they are not lending enough. He emphasized that lending should be a priority.

During the district banking affairs progress review meeting, Karbari questioned the absence of senior officials from some banks and instructed DGMs to provide advance notice if they cannot attend meetings. He also pointed out that Ambedkar Corporation’s loan scheme applications are pending with banks. Out of 72 targets under the Yojani Yojana, 22 have been sanctioned, 10 rejected, and 19 are still pending. Additionally, 5292 applications have been submitted for PM Vishwakarma Yojana, with 3692 accepted and 1450 rejected.

Canara Bank DGM Venkata Varaprasad, Reserve Bank of India AGM Arun Kumar P, and NABARD Officer Sangeet Karta provided more information during the meeting. Lead Bank Manager Geeta Yashodhar presented the program, highlighting the need for banks to improve their performance in supporting government schemes.
