On Sunday morning, Vidhan Parishad member Ivan D’Souza launched the district level polio vaccination program at Ladygoshan Hospital in Mangalore. D’Souza initiated the program by administering pulse polio vaccination to children, emphasizing the importance of parents’ role in ensuring every child under five receives the vaccine. He stressed that each child is a valuable asset to the country and deserves attention to their health. The event was attended by District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. H.R. Thimmaiah, Ladygoshan Hospital Superintendent Dr. Durgaprasad MR, and other health department officials, including Dr. Rajesh B.V. and Health Education Officer Jyoti Ulepadi.

The district aims to administer polio drops to 1,40,677 children between 0-5 years of age, with 756 booths set up for this purpose. In Mangalore city, 26 transit teams and three mobile teams are operating to achieve this goal. Additionally, 26 transit teams are stationed at key locations such as bus stations, railway stations, airports, and prominent temples like Subrahmanya, Dharmasthala, and Katilu. Dr. H.R. Thimmaiah also mentioned that there are 506 migrant children in the district, and efforts will be made to provide them with polio vaccination as well.
