Lucknow, Sep 12 – Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati declared on Saturday that the party will adopt a strict anti‑nepotism policy, giving preference to young, hardworking and talented individuals from all sections of society for organisational roles and candidate selection in the upcoming Assembly elections.
In a detailed post on X, Mayawati clarified that holding a party position or shouldering responsibilities will not automatically entitle a member’s relatives to political posts or benefits. She specifically mentioned that members of her brother Anand Kumar’s family will be excluded from electoral politics through BSP channels; his two sons and future grandchildren will not be allowed to contest elections under the party banner.
The leader emphasized a youth‑centric strategy across the country, especially in Uttar Pradesh, aiming for roughly 50 per cent participation of the younger generation in the party structure. She said the same approach will guide candidate choices for the Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab Legislative Assembly polls, with an eye on promoting both men and women who embody hard work and merit.
Mayawati linked this direction to the legacy of BSP founder Kanshi Ram and Dr B R Ambedkar, asserting that fresh blood is essential to carry forward Ambedkarite politics, constitutional values and the party’s humanitarian, egalitarian and secular goals.
Reflecting on the four BSP governments she led in Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati highlighted achievements in law and order, basic infrastructure and public services such as roads, electricity, water, education and healthcare. She cited the construction of schools, hospitals, colleges, universities, hostels, training centres and parks, claiming these efforts reduced forced migration from the state.
The chief attributed the party’s inability to secure a fifth term in 2012 to what she described as deeply casteist attitudes of opposition parties, and warned that the rule of law remains unsettled since BSP left office. She urged workers to select “good people” from all sections of society, prioritising youth, to strengthen the mission of social change and economic emancipation championed by Kanshi Ram and Ambedkar.
