On June 8, in Mangalore, the DK District Health and Family Welfare Department instructed scanning centers to verify the age of pregnant women and report minors to the police. This directive was issued during a District Advisory Committee meeting chaired by Dr. Amrita Bhandari at the District Health Officer’s office. The meeting discussed the birth statistics from April to June 2026, which showed 2911 male and 2872 female births, resulting in a sex ratio of 987. The committee also reviewed applications from organizations that purchased new scanning equipment and addressed deficiencies found during hospital inspections.

The meeting decided that veterinary hospitals and clinics in Dakshina Kannada district must display a sign indicating that they only scan animals and provide a notary affidavit stating they will not scan humans. From April 2025 to March 2026, a total of 720 scanning centers, including 681 private and 39 government centers, will be inspected. According to District Implementation Officer Dr. Deepa Prabhu, taluk health officers have already inspected 75 private and 9 government scanning centers. Committee members, including Anitraj, Dr. Sundari, and Dr. Nanjesh Kumar, were present at the meeting.
