On Monday, Dr M.N. Rajendra Kumar, President of the Dakshina Kannada District Central Cooperative Bank, emphasized the cooperative sector’s significant role in the country’s development while inaugurating the Special Cooperative Week celebrations in Mangaluru. The event was jointly organized by the Karnataka State Cooperative Federation, Karnataka State Cooperative Marketing Federation, Dakshina Kannada District Central Cooperative Bank, Dakshina Kannada District Cooperative Union, and the Department of Cooperation at the Central Bank auditorium.

Dr Rajendra Kumar highlighted that the Special Cooperative Week, being celebrated for the first time in the country under the theme ‘Prosperity Through Cooperation,’ transcends political affiliations. He noted that Karnataka has over 47,000 cooperative societies, with more than 30 crore people across the country being members of cooperative institutions. These societies have taken banking services to the grassroots, developed strong relationships with the public, and provided financial assistance during times of need.

MLA Vedavyas D. Kamath, who hoisted the flag to mark the beginning of the Special Cooperative Week, emphasized the spirit of cooperation in Indian society and culture. He acknowledged the cooperative sector’s invaluable contribution to national development and its potential to play a crucial role in achieving the Prime Minister’s vision of a Developed India. Other dignitaries, including Raviraj Hegde, President of the Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union, and Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies H.N. Ramesh, also spoke at the event.
