On Monday, the Indian Coast Guard successfully rescued six fishermen from a distressed fishing boat in the Arabian Sea near Mangaluru. The rescue operation took place around 33 nautical miles off the coast of Surathkal. The fishermen, on board the fishing boat ‘Manju Math’, sent out a distress call around 4 PM due to a storm that damaged their boat and caused water to enter it. The Indian Coast Guard ship ‘ICGS Sachet’ was patrolling the area and immediately responded to the call. Despite the challenging weather conditions, including strong winds and low visibility, the Coast Guard personnel managed to reach the distressed boat in about 90 minutes. They used remote-operated lifebuoys to safely evacuate the fishermen from the sinking boat. All six fishermen were rescued by around 6 PM and were later brought ashore at New Mangaluru Port. The ‘Manju Math’, a fiberglass fishing boat registered in Udupi district with the registration number IND KA 02 MO 5268, was carrying six crew members at the time of the incident. The Indian Coast Guard’s swift response ensured the safe rescue of the fishermen.
