On Saturday, Sep 13, 2026, the Kundapura Taluk-level Pre-University Kabaddi tournament for boys and girls unfolded at Gandhi Maidan, Kundapura, under the joint auspices of the Department of School Education (Pre-University), Udupi District and St. Mary's Pre-University College.
The opening ceremony was led by Hamsaraj Shetty, President of Hangaluru Lions Club. Rev. Fr. Paul Rego, Joint Secretary of St. Mary's Educational Institutions and Chief Priest of Rosary Church, presided over the event. Among the dignitaries were Sukesh Shetty Hosamath, President of Udupi District Physical Education Lecturers' Association, Arun Kumar Shetty of the Udupi District Kabaddi Referee Board, and Senior Physical Education Director Umesh Shetty.
Sriram Shetty, Sports Coordinator of Kundapura Taluk Pre-University Division, delivered the introductory remarks, while the college principal, Fr. Ralvin Fernandes, welcomed the assembled participants. Lecturer Nagaraj Shetty acted as the master of ceremonies, and Reshma Fernandes, Academic Advisor of the college, offered the vote of thanks. Chandrashekar Bijadi, Physical Education Teacher of St. Mary's High School, also compered the program, assisted by Physical Education teachers Chidananda and Shanthi Rani Barretto.
Competition results highlighted Janata PU College, Hemmadi, which emerged victorious in both the boys and girls categories. In the boys division, Janata PU College, Hemmadi secured first place, followed by SV PU College, Gangolli in second. The girls division saw Janata PU College, Hemmadi repeat its triumph, with Government PU College, Kundapura taking the runner‑up spot.
The tournament not only showcased emerging talent from the taluk but also reinforced the collaborative spirit among educational institutions, sports officials and local clubs in promoting kabaddi at the pre‑university level.
