On Wednesday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath initiated the second phase of the state-wide School Chalo Abhiyan-2026 from Saharanpur, emphasizing education as the foundation of nation-building. Addressing a gathering, CM Yogi stressed the importance of quality education in shaping responsible citizens and public representatives. He urged the public to ensure every child is enrolled in school within 15 days, calling on teachers, civil society, and public representatives to make the campaign a mass movement.

CM Yogi highlighted the progress made in reducing the school dropout rate, which has decreased from 19-20 percent to 3-4 percent due to improved amenities and services. The School Chalo Abhiyan, launched in 2017, aims to bring every child into the mainstream of education. The Chief Minister attributed the campaign’s success to the government’s clear policy and firm resolve towards educational reform.

The state government has made significant efforts to provide basic amenities in schools, particularly for backward and marginalized classes. In 2017, only 36 percent of schools under the Basic Education Council had basic amenities, but this number has increased significantly over the years. Essential facilities such as separate toilets, clean drinking water, furniture, libraries, and proper arrangements for mid-day meals are being developed in schools.

CM Yogi stated that ensuring every child attends school is a collective responsibility, as a child deprived of education is a loss to the entire society and nation. The state government has provided scholarships to approximately 23,000 differently-abled girls and increased the honorarium for part-time teachers and instructors. An insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh will also be provided to part-time teachers, instructors, cooks, and those associated with the school chalo programme.
