Byndur MLA Gururaj Shetty Gantihole has called for expanding Yakshagana education across high schools in his constituency. Speaking at a consultation held at the Kundapur Taluk Panchayat Hall, he addressed head teachers from government and aided schools, urging them to integrate the traditional art form into the curriculum.
The Yakshagana Kala Ranga Institute has been running the program for the past two years. Gantihole praised the institution for its "unparalleled service" in teaching Yakshagana to interested students. He credited the success to the dedication of school headmasters, teachers, students, parents, and local residents. "The institution has become a driving force for the entire education system," he said, adding that the structured programs contribute to both academic progress and personality development.
Last year, 17 high schools in the Byndur assembly constituency participated. This year, the number has risen to 19, reflecting growing interest among schools. The MLA emphasized the cultural and linguistic benefits of Yakshagana, noting that it improves language proficiency and learning ability while introducing students to India's rich heritage.
Gantihole also appealed for extending the Vidya Poshak Yojana benefits to families in Byndur constituency. He highlighted that the Yakshagana Kala Ranga's initiatives have improved quality of life for many students. In some cases, the institution has even provided housing to families of gifted students lacking adequate facilities. "Hundreds of struggling talented students across the constituency need support," he said, urging officials to act.
Nagesh Naik, Byndur Zonal Field Education Officer, and Shobha Shetty, Kundapur Zonal Field Education Officer, attended the meeting. Murali Kadekar of Yakshagana Kala Ranga was present, along with head teachers from all government and aided high schools in the constituency.
