On August 16, Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed a gathering in Rajasthan’s Chittorgarh, where he strongly criticized the Congress party for disrespecting the national song Vande Mataram during Independence Day celebrations at their headquarters. Shah demanded an apology from the Congress, stating that the country would not forgive the party for stopping the national song midway. The incident occurred when senior Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, were seen interacting while Vande Mataram was being played, with Gandhi allegedly gesturing to stop the song. The BJP claimed that Gandhi objected to the full version of Vande Mataram being played. Shah mentioned that after 80 years of independence, the full version of Vande Mataram was played across all events on August 15. He slammed the Congress, saying that the party forgot the significance of Vande Mataram, which was an immortal creation of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay. Shah also unveiled a statue of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his death anniversary and inaugurated various development projects in Chittorgarh district. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma welcomed Shah by presenting a traditional turban at the event. Shah’s remarks came during the inauguration and foundation-laying ceremony of these projects. The Home Minister emphasized that the people of the country would never forgive the Congress for this act and that the party should be ashamed of their behavior.
