On Saturday, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara emphasized the need for a deeper understanding of constitutional equality at a Law College graduation ceremony in Shettihalli, Tumakuru. Parameshwara highlighted the significant progress India has made since Independence, with literacy rates rising from 12 percent to nearly 80 percent. He encouraged law graduates to view their profession as a responsibility to uphold the rule of law and deliver justice, rather than just a career. The Deputy Chief Minister also underscored the importance of the Constitution, which Dr B.R. Ambedkar had given India, forming the foundation of the country’s democratic system. Parameshwara noted that if the Constitution is weakened, democracy itself will be weakened, and it is every citizen’s responsibility to protect the values enshrined in the Constitution. He further emphasized the need for citizens to understand their Fundamental Rights and Duties, as outlined in Articles 12 to 35 and Article 51A, respectively. To become effective advocates, law graduates must pursue continuous learning, Parameshwara said. He also pointed out that despite having over 1,500 law colleges, a large number of cases remain pending in courts, highlighting the need for further judicial reforms. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Madhugiri MLA K.N. Rajanna and Superintendent of Police Ashok K.V.
