New Bengaluru Pubs Tap Into Retro Charm With Vintage Decor and Classic Vibes

BENGALURU — A conversation between two patrons at the newly opened resto-pub Adda 1522 recently captured exactly what the owners intended. Discussing the 'feel of the pub,' they noted how the red oxide floors, Mangalore tiles, and retro rock posters transported them straight to Bangalore of the 1970s.

Chethan Hegde, a partner at Adda 1522, confirmed that nostalgia was the guiding idea. "We used plenty of open space and kept interiors simple," Hegde said. "Cartoonist Paul Fernandes' artwork of Plaza Theatre and Bangalore Club was a key addition. Even the music — classic rock played at low volume — lets conversations flow." Hegde cited the now-closed Dewar's Bar as a major inspiration. The menu sticks to straightforward pub fare: peanut masala, chakli, and Bengaluru-style mutton pulao.

For those who appreciate art deco design, Jamming Goat offers a standout bar counter. Designer Avinash Kapoli used straight lines with curved corners, wide mirrors, and pillars lined with lights. "We wanted a stylish counter from the 1980s," Kapoli explained. "The pillars and lights complement each other, while mirrors add glamour and make the space feel larger."

Soon, Roxie will transport visitors to European beaches. Set to launch shortly, its crafthouse architecture draws from the Amalfi Coast of the 1970s. White walls, limestone, yellow accents, and multiple glass arches create a serene atmosphere. Partner Pravesh Pandey said, "We aim to offer opulence and elegance for patrons over 30 who want a fine drinking experience." Large wall fans complete the retro European feel.
