106 kg Silver Chariot Dedicated to Goddess Mookambika at Kollur Temple
A new silver chariot weighing 106 kilograms was formally dedicated to Goddess Mookambika at the famous Kollur temple on Sunday. The chariot, valued at approximately ₹3 crore, was offered as a service by the Padma Shri RMB Aradhya Trust of Bengaluru.
Religious ceremonies began early in the morning under the guidance of temple chief priest Ramachandra Adiga. Rituals including Ratha Shuddi and Bali were performed ahead of the main chariot festival and dedication event. Around 11 am, after the sacrificial rites concluded, the Utsava idol was brought out from the sanctum sanctorum. Idol bearer Srisha Bhat carried the goddess into the new chariot.
Following decoration, fruit offering and Mangalarati, coconuts were broken on the chariot wheels to mark the start of Rathotsava. Devotees and the sevakarta's family raised victory shouts as they pulled the chariot through the inner premises of the temple.
The chariot was crafted by Prabhakar Achar and his brothers from Gopadi in the taluk. Temple officials present included Management Committee chair K. Babu Shetty Taggarse, Executive Officer Prashant Kumar Shetty, Assistant Executive Officer Muthuraj Thumbige, committee members U. Rajesh Karantha, Aluru Raghurama Devadiga, Dhanakshi Vishwanath Pujari, Mahalinga Nayka, Sudha Bynduru, Public Relations Officer Jayakumar, priest Suresh Bhat, and Kollur Station Officer Vinay Korlahalli. Donors and sculptors were honored by the temple management for their contributions.
