Kolkata, September 24: The West Bengal Cabinet has decided to close approximately 250 government-recognised private madrasas across the state after December. Citing critically low student enrolment and inadequate infrastructure, the decision, taken last Wednesday, marks a significant step in the state's ongoing review of educational institutions.
To prevent immediate disruption for currently enrolled students, classes at the affected madrasas will continue until December, with administrative closure procedures beginning after the academic session concludes. This forms part of a broader state-wide assessment of madrasas' operations, facilities, and approval statuses.
