Udupi commemorated Civic Workers' Day on Wednesday, September 23, with a vibrant celebration at the Ajjarakadu Town Hall, where District Collector Swaroopa T.K. announced a significant new initiative. The administration plans to collaborate with non-governmental organizations to streamline cleaning operations, aiming to ease the workload for the city's dedicated civic staff. Addressing the gathering, Ms. Swaroopa T.K. lauded the commendable efforts of these workers in maintaining Udupi's hygiene and public spaces.
The Udupi City Municipal Council organized the day's events, which commenced with a spirited procession featuring drum beats, moving from the Municipal Council office to the Town Hall. Dr. Krishnaprasad Koodlu, Medical Director of Udupi Prasad Netralaya Super Speciality Eye Hospital, inaugurated the program. He underscored the indispensable role of civic workers in upholding Udupi's cleanliness and urged them to prioritize their own health and well-being.
Throughout the celebration, civic workers showcased their talents through various cultural performances. Prizes were distributed to the winners of sports competitions organized specifically for them, adding a competitive and festive spirit to the day. The entertainment also included a comedy play titled 'Wrong Route,' performed by the Abhinava Kalavidara team, which drew much appreciation.
As a practical measure for worker welfare, Prasad Netralaya conducted comprehensive eye check-ups for all civic staff present, forming a crucial part of the health camp. Dignitaries gracing the dais included Project Director Subramanya Shetty P., Municipal Commissioner Mahantesh Hangaragi, Joint Director of Social Welfare Department Anita Madlur, Office Manager Manjunath KS, Assistant Executive Engineer Durgaprasad, Environmental Engineer Ravi Prakash, Revenue Officer Nagaraj, Accountant Krishnarama Devadiga, and Baby, President of the Civic Employees' Association, alongside other City Municipal Council officials and staff.
