On Monday, senior citizens assembled at the Mahatma Gandhi District Sports Complex in Ajjarkad, Udupi, to inaugurate a day‑long programme of sports and cultural contests marking World Senior Citizens Day.
Nithin Yashwant Rao, member secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, told participants that age concerns only the body, not the mind, and urged elders to join every competition without hesitation.
The event received support from the District Administration, District Panchayat, Women and Child Development Department, Empowerment Department for Persons with Disabilities and Senior Citizens, Health and Family Welfare Department, Legal Services Authority, Youth Empowerment and Sports Department, senior citizen platforms, the retired government employees association, Udupi Women’s Forum Union, local old‑age homes and the joint shelter of Kenara Bank Udupi Regional Office 1 and 2.
