Leaders of the Young Democrats today pressed the government and district administration for immediate action following the tragic balcony collapse at Ram Lakshminarayana Convention Hall in Mangaluru. The delegation visited the home of the student who lost his life in the incident, offering condolences to the grieving family, and later met with injured students receiving treatment in city hospitals, inquiring about their recovery.
Moonish Ali, State Joint Convener of Young Democrats, articulated a set of six crucial demands during their visit. Foremost among these is a compensation package of Rs. 50 lakh for the family of the deceased student. The organization also insists the government fully cover all medical expenses for every student injured and currently hospitalised due to the accident.
The incident, which occurred during a college student union's oath-taking ceremony, tragically claimed the life of a promising young individual and left others in pain. Young Democrats voiced deep regret over this unexpected calamity, wishing peace for the departed soul and a swift recovery for those injured.
Further demands target accountability and preventative measures. The group calls for stringent legal action against both the event organizers and the building owners, citing a lack of proper preparations for the gathering. They urged the district administration to promptly identify and demolish old, rusted, and dilapidated structures across the city. Additionally, the Young Democrats stressed the necessity for officials to conduct mandatory on-site inspections when renewing annual building licenses, ensuring strict adherence to safety standards before approval. Finally, they called for a thorough investigation into the collapse and legal proceedings against all responsible parties.
The delegation included prominent figures such as SDPI State Secretary Riyaz Kadambu, Young Democrats Mangaluru City District Convener Irfan Thumbe, along with Mangaluru City District Joint Conveners Tanveer Ullal and Sharfuddin Bajpe. Young Democrats District Committee member Ansar Kudroli and SDPI Ullal Assembly Constituency President Zahid Malar also participated in the visits and discussions.
