Udupi commemorated Vishwakarma Jayanti on September 17, with a significant event held at the Kunjibettu Gayatri Kalyana Mantapa. Jointly organized by the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, and the Department of Kannada and Culture, Udupi District, the celebration brought together community members and local dignitaries to honor traditional artisans and discuss their empowerment.
MLA Yashpal Suvarna, who inaugurated the program, emphasized the government's commitment to the Vishwakarma community through the P.M. Vishwakarma scheme. He asserted that this initiative significantly empowers the community and strengthens the nation's traditional hereditary professions, enabling many to build successful lives by utilizing its benefits.
M.A. Gafoor, President of the Coastal Development Board, spoke on the profound contribution of sculptors to the world's creation. He added that adopting principles from the Vedas and Upanishads helps one understand humanity's true purpose. Dinakar Herur, President of the Urban Development Authority, also addressed the gathering. Lolaksha Sharma of Padukutyaru Anegundi Math delivered an insightful lecture on the significance of Vishwakarma.
A highlight of the event was the felicitation of five respected elders from the Vishwakarma community, recognized for their outstanding professional excellence across various fields. S.S. Kadrolli, Deputy Secretary of the Zilla Panchayat, presided over the program. Poornima, Assistant Director of the Department of Kannada and Culture, initiated the proceedings with an introductory speech and a warm welcome. Varsha B Kotyan, a staff member from the same department, expertly compered the entire program and concluded with the vote of thanks.
