On Monday, Udupi district witnessed the highest rainfall in 24 hours, with 7.36cm of rainfall recorded as of 8:30 am. The district has been experiencing increased rainfall over the past couple of days, despite initial concerns of inadequate rain. As of today, the rain continues to pour in, particularly after noon. The highest rainfall recorded in the district was 8.5cm in Hebri. Other areas such as Karkala, Kundapur, Udupi, Byndur, Brahmavar, Kapu, and Hebri also received significant rainfall, with 83.1mm, 66.4mm, 85.4mm, 69.9mm, 62.2mm, 61.8mm, and 85.0mm respectively. Unfortunately, the rain and strong winds have caused damage to four houses in the district. Fallen trees have resulted in power outages and property damage. For instance, a tree fell on the cattle shed of Rama Bangera’s house in Kotattu village, Brahmavar taluk, causing a loss of around 50,000. Similar incidents were reported in Karkunje village, Kundapur taluk, where a tree fell on Manju’s house, resulting in a loss of 40,000. Additionally, trees fell on the houses of Narayan in Byndur and Puspa Mulya in Mazur village, Kapu taluk, causing estimated losses of 50,000 and 40,000 respectively.
