When TVF launched Gram Chikitsalay, viewers quickly called it 'Panchayat with a stethoscope.' Both shows drop a frustrated city man into rural India. But that is where the resemblance stops. One learns to work within the system; the other tries to change it entirely.

Abhishek Tripathi, played by Jitendra Kumar, lands in Phulera because he has no other option. A failed CAT exam and dead-end corporate jobs leave him stuck as Panchayat Secretary. The village is a pit stop. He keeps one eye on Google Maps, looking for an escape route.

Prabhat, portrayed by Amol Parashar, chooses Bhatkandi. His family is comfortable. He could have joined a city hospital. Instead, he picks a rundown clinic in a village that distrusts modern medicine. He is not settling. He is on a mission.

Panchayat runs on files, roads, toilets, and local politics. Phulera is a tangle of stubborn egos and endless cups of tea. Abhishek's job is to keep the creaky machinery moving. Gram Chikitsalay runs on fear. Fear of needles, hospitals, and 'English medicine.' Prabhat does not fight bureaucracy. He fights superstitions where a havan beats a tablet. The village does not need another form. It needs a reason to believe.

Abhishek faces Banrakas, lazy clerks, and his own homesickness. His journey is about patience and survival. You do not win. You hang on. Prabhat faces Chetak Kumar, played by Vinay Pathak, a beloved local healer. Villagers trust him, not Prabhat. Abhishek fights the system. Prabhat fights for trust. Abhishek compromises and learns jugaad. Prabhat refuses to cut corners. That makes him admirable and deeply lonely.

Both shows avoid spectacle. They tell grounded stories about rent worries, family pressure, and needing help. Panchayat asks if work can get done without losing your mind. Gram Chikitsalay asks if you can do good when nobody wants what you offer.
