On July 2, the mortal remains of Dubbala Dasu, a migrant worker from Telangana, were repatriated to India, 15 days after he died of a heart attack in Saudi Arabia, where he had been stranded for 12 years due to lack of valid documents. Dasu, a native of Konaraopet in Rajanna Sircilla district, had been living in Riyadh, surviving on odd jobs. He did not have a valid iqama, passport, or sponsor, which made it impossible for him to return to India. Dasu died on June 17, leaving behind his wife, a daughter, and a son, who are both pursuing their education. The Indian Embassy, along with various social workers, including Mohammed Farooq, Abdul Rafique, Ranjith, and Muzammil, coordinated the documentation and formalities required to repatriate his body. The body was flown from Riyadh to Hyderabad on IndiGo flight 6E94, arranged through Elite Freight Forwarding in coordination with the Indian Embassy. Those involved in the process have appealed to the Telangana government to provide financial assistance to Dasu’s family and to strengthen welfare measures for overseas migrant workers. This incident highlights the difficulties faced by undocumented migrant workers in Gulf countries, where the absence of valid documents can delay repatriation and place additional burdens on bereaved families.
