State Health Minister and District In‑charge U.T. Khader announced on September 18 that the cabinet will convene at Prajasoudha, the Deputy Commissioner's office in Dakshina Kannada, to address development demands of the coastal region.
Speaking to reporters, Khader recalled his earlier suggestion that any cabinet meeting held outside Bengaluru should start with Mangaluru. He expressed satisfaction with the Chief Minister's decision to hold the first ever cabinet session in the city.
The agenda, he explained, will cover health infrastructure, educational initiatives and tourism projects that are critical for the coastal districts. A special emphasis will be placed on resolving long‑standing issues such as the jail jammer, with plans to relocate the facility and allocate budgetary funds for a permanent solution.
Khader urged local residents to cooperate fully, noting that the success of the meeting depends on community support. He appealed to protestors to refrain from demonstrations during the session, assuring that their concerns will be addressed through formal proposals.
Present at the press briefing were District Congress President Padmaraj, KPCC General Secretary Mithun Rai and other political leaders, all of whom echoed the call for collaborative effort.
The cabinet meeting, scheduled for later on September 18, marks a historic moment for Mangaluru and is expected to set the tone for comprehensive development across Karnataka's coastal belt.
