Police in Puttur filed a case on September 18 against persons who continued to operate loudspeakers after the permitted hour during the Ganeshotsava immersion procession held at the Mahalingeshwara Temple premises.
The Public Sri Ganeshotsava Committee had obtained conditional permission from the Puttur City Police Station to use loudspeakers until 10 PM on September 17. Several tableaux formed part of the procession, and the audio equipment was switched off as instructed when the deadline passed.
At approximately 10:35 PM, officers observed that a tableau called “Panchamukhi Friends” stationed at the KSRTC Bus Stand Junction was still broadcasting sound. The police ordered the organizers to cease the loudspeaker, and the device was turned off briefly.
Shortly thereafter, Ajith Rai Hosamane arrived with a group of individuals not affiliated with the event. They demanded that the loudspeaker be re‑activated, urging the tableau members to resume the broadcast. Despite repeated directives from on‑duty officers, the loudspeaker was turned on again and continued to operate.
The complaint lodged by the Police Sub‑Inspector alleges that the participants ignored Supreme Court guidelines on loudspeaker usage and the specific conditions set by the police station, thereby obstructing police duty. The report seeks legal action against Ajith Rai Hosamane, the organizers of the Panchamukhi Friends tableau and others involved.
Following the incident, the officer on law and order duty submitted a formal report to the station, leading to the registration of a case under relevant sections of the law.
