Udupi district will administer pulse polio vaccine to every child aged 0-5 years during a one-day campaign on Sunday, June 28, from 8 am to 5 pm. Additional District Collector Abid Gadyala issued the directive while chairing the District Vaccination Task Force Coordination Committee meeting at the Collector's Office Hall in Manipal Rajatadri on Wednesday.

Gadyala stressed that even children previously vaccinated must receive the drops again. The district has identified 65,401 children in the target age group. To reach them, authorities will set up 665 booths, including 19 transit points and three mobile teams. A workforce of 2,660 LASIK workers and 155 supervisors has been deployed for the operation.

India has reported zero polio cases since the National Pulse Polio Program began in 1995. However, Gadyala noted that recent cases in neighbouring countries justify continued vigilance. “All departments must work in coordination to achieve 100 percent coverage,” he said, calling on Health Department staff, ASHA workers, and Anganwadi workers to participate actively.

The administration has directed local bodies to provide school rooms, Anganwadi buildings, and other government or semi-government facilities for booth operations. Mescom junior officials suggested ensuring uninterrupted power supply from June 25 until the campaign concludes.

Municipal Commissioner Mahantesh Hangaragi, District Health Officer Dr. Basavaraja Hubli, District RCH Officer Dr. Jyotsna B.K., District Survey Officer Nagaratna, and various taluk health officers attended the meeting.
