On a recent inspection, health officials from the Mangaluru City Corporation raided street food stalls near the Bejai KSRTC bus stand and the State Bank area in Mangaluru. The team, tasked with ensuring food safety and public health protection, detected the use of Ajinomoto, a harmful substance, in some stalls. As a result, the officials confiscated the Ajinomoto and imposed a fine of Rs 6,000 on three street food stalls near State Bank for using prohibited artificial colors. The MCC health officials warned all food vendors to adhere strictly to food hygiene and safety regulations, threatening legal action under the Food Safety Act against those who violate the rules. The raids are part of the corporation’s efforts to maintain high standards of food safety in the city. The MCC has cautioned that any use of harmful substances in food preparation will be dealt with severely. The corporation’s crackdown on unhygienic street food stalls aims to protect the health and well-being of citizens in Mangaluru.
