Bengaluru, July 12: A meeting of opposition parties will be held in Bengaluru on July 17 and 18. It is being led by the Congress and like-minded parties have been invited to the meeting. A meeting of the opposition parties was held last month in Bihar’s Patna under the leadership of Nitish Kumar. Meanwhile, PM Modi-led BJP is also busy uniting its like-minded parties.
In Andhra Pradesh, BJP has good relations with Chief Minister Jagan Mohana Reddy, former CM Chandrababu Naidu and Jana Sena leader and actor Pawan Kalyan. BJP leaders are said to have held talks with these three.
In Maharashtra, BJP has formed an alliance with NCP led by Ajit Pawar and Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde.
Alliance talks come to fore in Karnataka
When it comes to Karnataka, there is a lot of speculation about BJP and JDS alliance. It is learned that many leaders have suggested that it would be good for both parties to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections together.
The BJP will benefit marginally from this alliance. In this background, some leaders have expressed the opinion that they do not want an alliance.
In the last Lok Sabha elections, Congress and JDS parties had formed an alliance. However, the alliance managed to win only one seat in Karnataka. If we look closely at this, we have also heard that alliance politics will not succeed in Karnataka.
Now it is said that talks are going on about BJP-JDS alliance. However, a question has arisen whether the two parties are likely to transfer votes to each other.
In the assembly elections held in May, BJP got 36% and JDS 14% votes. However, in the last Lok Sabha elections, only BJP got 52 percent. In this context, JD(S) needs BJP. However, it is known that JD(S) is not indispensable for BJP.
None of the opposition parties have severely challenged the Congress government in the current legislative session. Strangely, though the BJP is the main opposition party, Kumaraswamy of the JD(S) is more vocal. Sources said this could also be a strategy to help the BJP.
JDS gains from alliance, BJP loses
BJP, which has achieved an unprecedented feat in the last Lok Sabha elections, is gearing up to fight again. However, JDS has lost ground in its stronghold. The performance of JD(S) in Lok Sabha and Assembly elections is not so good.
Looking at this background, it can be said that the alliance will also bring more benefits to JDS. If a JDS candidate is given a ticket from Okkaliga-dominated districts, now MPs elected by the BJP will have to back out. This will benefit JDS.
It is a well known fact that BJP will not get many votes from JDS which is not dominant in North Karnataka and Coastal parts. Thus, political experts opined that BJP will have to suffer losses.
