Opposition MPs protest demanding Prime Minister’s statement on Manipur violence

New Delhi, July 25: A group of opposition MPs staged a silent protest in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue in Parliament House on the third day of the monsoon session, demanding a comprehensive statement on the two-month-long communal violence in Manipur. What is special is that this sit-in was held on Monday at 11 pm.

At night, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress MPs holding placards reading ‘Manipur for India’ staged a silent protest at 11 pm. He shouted slogans against the Prime Minister. On Tuesday morning, Prime Minister Modi demanded a ‘comprehensive statement’ in both Houses on the Manipur crisis.

During the three days of the Monsoon Parliament session, there was no work in the Parliament on the third day due to the demands and demands heard on the Manipur issue.

The opposition wants a debate

Several opposition MPs had given notice of adjournment to discuss the situation in Manipur.

The opposition wants a debate that allows all parties to speak without any time limit. But since the Monsoon session started on Thursday, there have been protests on the same issue.

Manipur is not the same and the central government has accused the opposition parties of running away without discussing important issues. The opposition has also made the same accusation against the government. The Center has hit back at the BJP asking if they will run away from the debates.

 

 

Kharge alleges against BJP

Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge alleged that the central BJP government was insensitive. Our demand is that the Prime Minister should come to the House and make a statement. We are ready for a discussion about that statement, he complained that you are speaking out. Manipur violence is a serious issue, Kharge said, saying that Parliament has been insulted by your move.

BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi defended the government. He accused the opposition leaders of running away from the debate. Why is the opposition silent on the issues of violence against women in other states? He questioned.

A video of two tribal women being paraded naked in Manipur has been shared on social media. Commenting on this, Union Minister Prahlad Singh Patel said,

The Prime Minister spoke about the sensitivity of Manipur even before the Monsoon session. He felt that it was not right not to start the discussion on Manipur in the House by saying that his action was wrong.
