On Sunday, the 20th Kannada Sahitya Sammelana was inaugurated at the Vinayaka Sabhangana in Kumbashi, Kundapur taluk. Dr. Narendra Rai Derla, a renowned author, delivered the keynote address, stating that Kannada’s decline is due to a lack of interest in the language and literature among the people. He emphasized the importance of literature in understanding oneself and one’s surroundings.
Dr. Derla also highlighted the impact of artificial intelligence on human relationships, making us ‘living corpses.’ He stressed that parents now prioritize a school’s external appearance over its quality, leading to a decline in the number of students enrolling in Kannada medium schools.
U.S. Shenai, the president of the sammelana, suggested that literary conferences provide an opportunity for discussion and criticism. He proposed organizing programs to promote general knowledge, Kannada language, and local culture among children.
Other attendees, including MLA A. Kiran Kumar Kodgi, Deputy Director of Public Instruction Shoba Shetty, and industrialist Anand C. Kundar, were present at the event. The sammelana was organized by the Kundapur Taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat, and the inaugural ceremony was attended by various dignitaries, including professors, writers, and local leaders.
