Karkala witnessed vibrant celebrations near Ananthashayana Circle recently, as the Karkala Block Congress Committee and various Tulu organizations hailed the state Congress government's decision to grant Tulu the status of the state's second official language. The joyous occasion saw participants bursting firecrackers and distributing sweets, marking a significant milestone for the region's linguistic heritage.
Addressing the jubilant crowd, Karkala Block Congress President Shubhada Rao described the moment as historic, fulfilling a long-cherished dream for the people of Tulu Nadu. He emphasized that Tuluvas proudly embrace this honor bestowed by the state government upon their language, culture, and rich heritage. Rao also commended the proactive steps taken by the government, under the leadership of Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, for the advancement and development of the Tulu language.
Taranath Kotian, President of the Management Committee for Miyyaru Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple, underscored Tulu's profound significance. He articulated that Tulu transcends mere communication; it is 'appe bhasha' (mother tongue), deeply interwoven with the life, cultural practices, customs, and heritage of Tulu Nadu's populace. Kotian declared the official recognition of Tulu a source of immense pride for every Tulu enthusiast and urged collective efforts towards the language's continued growth and preservation in the years ahead.
The festive gathering drew a host of prominent figures, including Hebri Block Congress President Gopinath Bhat, Subith N.R., KMF Director Sudhakar Shetty Mudaru, Women's Congress President Bhanu Bhaskara Poojary, City Congress President Rajendra Devadiga, City Women's Congress President Smt. Reena D'Souza, Sunil Bhandari, Santhosh Devadiga, and Pradeep Beladi. Congress workers, leaders from various Tulu organizations, Tulu enthusiasts, and the general public also participated, collectively expressing their deep appreciation for the government's landmark decision.
