On Tuesday night, director Christopher Nolan premiered his latest film, The Odyssey, in New York City, with a grand red carpet event at Lincoln Square. The main attraction was a 40-foot Trojan Horse, surrounded by soldiers, which was not just a promotional prop, but an actual part of the film’s plot. The scene, where Odysseus, played by Matt Damon, and his warriors hide inside the horse, marks the beginning of their perilous journey back home.

Nolan, known for his practical filmmaking approach, chose to build the Trojan Horse instead of relying on CGI. He even climbed inside the structure with 20 actors, including John Leguizamo, who plays Eumaeus, and the film’s director of photography, Hoyte van Hoytema. Matt Damon shared that Nolan didn’t fully plan the scene until the day of filming, which added to the spontaneity and authenticity of the moment.

The film’s original Trojan Horse is currently on display outside the AMC Theatre at Universal Studios Hollywood’s CityWalk. With its release scheduled for July 17, The Odyssey is generating excitement among Indian audiences, with advance bookings already selling nearly Rs 7.5 crore worth of opening-day tickets. Trade experts expect the film to cross Rs 20 crore gross on its opening day, potentially reaching Rs 25 crore if spot bookings remain strong.
