Kundapur, A.26 — On Monday, the Kundapur Taluk Panchayat building hosted a Shri Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti celebration that brought together local officials, educators and students to reflect on the sage’s timeless teachings.

Panduranga, a lecturer at Shankar Narayan Government First Grade College, opened the programme with a lecture that described Valmiki as a “great sage of gurus and a great poet of poets.” He highlighted the saint’s role in transmitting truth, dharma, sacrifice, duty and humanitarian values through literature.

The speaker underscored the Ramayana as Valmiki’s most significant contribution, noting how the epic portrays Lord Rama’s ideal conduct, Sita’s selflessness, Lakshmana’s fraternal bond, Bharata’s loyalty and Hanuman’s devotion. According to Panduranga, these narratives reinforce family ties, responsibility, justice, religious observance and social accountability.

Beyond the epic, Valmiki’s writings, he added, have left a lasting imprint on Indian culture, influencing art, music, theatre and folk traditions. Popular mythic accounts of his life convey a message that personal transformation is possible through self‑reflection, austerity and the pursuit of knowledge.

Vinod Krashta, president of the Kundapur City Planning Authority, formally inaugurated the event. Former Kundapur Municipality Standing Committee chairman Prabhakar V. and Dalit Conflict Committee leader Dr. Udaykumar Tallur delivered remarks, followed by acknowledgments of students who achieved high marks in SSC and second‑PUC examinations.

Honoured pupils included Mithun, Divya, Anjaney, Harshita, Chetan and Rahul Rath. The ceremony was attended by Grade‑2 Tahsildar Vasanth, Municipal Chief Officer Anand J., Assistant Director Sudhakar Shetty, District Anti‑Violence Awareness Committee member Raju Bettinamane, Koraga community representative Sushila Naad and Social Welfare Department Assistant Director Ramesh Kullal, who welcomed the gathering. Radika Rani coordinated the proceedings.
